Reminisencia y Furor
Reminiscence and Fury is a pictorial collection that interweaves memory, resistance, and art as a territory of reclamation. Conceived by a contemporary artist through the lens of magical realism, this body of work is an homage to seven women painters whose artistic voices were silenced or underestimated in their time. Through a poetic and political gesture, the collection unfolds in two mirrored dimensions.
The first dimension introduces The Game of Consciousness, a three-meter-long central piece created by Paulina Carretero. This monumental work—rich in symbolism and introspection—is divided into seven fragments, each reinterpreted by one of the honored artists in a style evoking their unique visual language, and each graciously painted by Carretero:
Artemisia Gentileschi (Baroque), Berthe Morisot (Impressionism), Tamara de Lempicka (Art Deco), Georgia O’Keeffe (American Modernism), María Izquierdo (Mexican Surrealism), Remedios Varo (Surrealism), and Yayoi Kusama (Infinity Style). Each fragment becomes an imaginary echo—a simulation of how these creators might engage with the contemporary piece if time and history allowed it.
The second dimension reverses the gesture: Paulina Carretero selects an iconic work from each of the seven painters and reinterprets it through her own personal universe, weaving elements of magical realism to provide a renewed reading. Far from being an act of appropriation, this pictorial exercise becomes a ritual of listening and tribute—allowing these visual legacies to revive under her gaze, connecting styles, eras, and voices.
Reminiscence and Fury is, at its core, a collection that confronts history with beauty and strength. It fuses memory and rage as creative engines, proposing a space where women of art meet one another—even from fragmented times.
